Send text to know your CCC polling centre
Voters of Chittagong City Corporation elections would be able to text to a certain number and know which polling station they are supposed to cast their votes at.
Voters in Dhaka City Corporation will also have the same facility in the DCC polls, Humayun Kabir, secretary to the Election Commission Secretariat, said yesterday.
The secretary said the EC was gradually improving its capabilities to introduce the facility countrywide in phases.
He was speaking during signing of an agreement between the EC Secretariat and Grameenphone at the former's conference room.
Grameenphone began providing voters the service yesterday. Around 16 lakh voters of CCC are entitled to get the service.
Grameenphone officials at the agreement signing ceremony said they were trying to ensure inter-connectivity with other mobile phone operators within this week.
The EC secretary said users of other mobile phone operators would also get the facility.
Any voter of the June 17 CCC polls will be able to know the location of his or her polling station by simply typing "ID" followed by a space, then his or her year of birth and the 13 digit national identity card number and send the SMS to 2233.
The EC Secretariat in a press release said voters of CCC area could also get information about their polling stations by logging on to the EC website www.ecs.gov.bd.
Earlier, voters were provided with this facility in four city corporation and nine municipality polls held on August 4, 2008. Around 13 lakh voters were entitled to get that facility then.
