Teacher arrested on charge of illegally increasing number
Members of the detective branch (DB) of police arrested a teacher and four others on charge of increasing number in the answer scripts of two HSC examinees in exchange for money at Sheujgari under Bogra district yesterday.
The arrestees are Md Abul Kalam Azad, lecturer of English department at Shaheed Ahsanul Haque Degree College at Shantahar in Bogra, two brokers Ibrahim Hossain of Baliadangi in Poba upazila and Altaf Hossain Fatik of Hatdamnas in Bagmara upazila of Rajshahi, and HSC examinees Hasibur Rahman and Al Amin.
Hasibur Rahman and Al Amin appeared in the HSC examinations from Rajshahi Barendra College. Acting on a tip-off, the detectives raided the house of Abul Kalam Azad at Sheujgari and arrested the five. They also seized two answer scripts of English second paper and Tk 5,000 from Azad.
Azad, also an examineer, told police that he got mobile numbers of Hasibur and Al Amin in their answer scripts and contacted them through brokers Ibrahim and Altaf.
Accordingly, Hasibur and Al Amin came to his house and gave him money to increase number in their answer scripts.
Police said Azad admitted to increasing number in 12 more answer scripts of English second paper of the examinees from Barendra College in exchange for money.
Mahfuzur Rahman, assistant commissioner of DB, said the examiners can not identify the examinees from their answer scripts. They get mobile numbers of some students in their answer scripts and contact them through the brokers.
Brokers settle the issue with the examinees in exchange for money and the amount varies from Tk 5,000 to 30,000, considering what grade the examinees want to get from their answer scripts, the police official quoting Azad said.
