PMO pledges justice
A delegation from the Prime Minister's Office pledged justice to Aleya Akhter, who was torched by an unwelcome suitor, during a visit to the ailing teen at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital yesterday.
The director general of PMO, Dina Haque, met Aleya at the Burn and Plastic Surgery unit of the hospital yesterday around 3:00pm.
Dina said the government would do everything to punish the culprits responsible for the atrocity.
She also asked the project director of the DMCH Burn unit to provide Aleya with proper medical care. Some other officials from the PMO accompanied Dina.
Dr Samanta Lal Sen, the project director, said Aleya's condition was still critical. Doctors were trying their best to save her life.
Three men including suitor Khokon, a drug peddler, set fire to the girl Wednesday night, as she had turned down his marriage proposal.
Khokon and his accomplice Billal are now under police custody. Billal admitted his involvement in the crime to the law enforcers. Khokon was on two-day remand that expired yesterday.
Police again produced Khokon before court yesterday and prayed for another 10-day remand.
Investigation Officer of the case Yakub Ali, a sub-inspector of Pallabi Police Station, said as Khokon was makings confusing statements police sought 10 days' remand to know about others involved in the attack.
