Listed criminal Kirich Babul arrested in Chittagong

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members arrested a listed criminal from Bakalia in the port city yesterday.
The arrestee, identified as Md Didarul Alam Kazemi alias Babuilla alias Kirich Babul, 45, son of Emdadul Haq, was accused in 17 criminal cases, including extortion, abduction, land grabbing and attempt to murder with Chandgaon, Kotwali, Double Mooring and Bakalia Police Stations, sources in the Rab-7 said.
Acting on a tip off, a team of Rab-7 led by Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Fayaz Uddin took position near the residence of Babul in the morning.
Sensing Rab presence, Babul tried to escape but the members of the elite force managed to nab him at around 11:30am.
Babul along with others launched an attack on Md Mohsin, senior reporter of the daily Janakantha, at Masterpul last August.
Babul was being interrogated by Rab till filing of this report.
Meanwhile, members of Rab-7 in a raid at South Leda of Teknaf in Cox's Bazaar recovered three firearms, five rounds of cartridges and two rounds of bullets in an abandoned condition.
Sources said a gang of robbers was preparing to commit a robbery, but sensing Rab presence, they fled the scene.
