Storm kills 2 in Netrakona

Two persons were killed and 100 others injured while over 10 thousand hectares of boro crop and 500 mud huts were damaged during a nor'wester accompanied by hailstorm that lashed three upazilas of Netrakona Saturday night.
The dead were identified as Riaz Mollah, 32, and Azizul Islam, 40, of Boram village under Mohongonj upazila.
Of the injured, Manirul Islam, Mati Mia, Anisur Rahman, Abul Kalam, Habibur Rahman, Shafiqul Islam, Nurul Islam and Abdur Rouf were sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where their condition was stated to be critical. Others were admitted to local health complexes.
The district administration sources said the nor'wester lasted for 15 minutes, and it damaged electricity transmission towers in Barhatta upazila and many electric poles in Mohongonj, Barhatta and Atpara upazilas.
As many as 250 houses were ravaged in Mohongonj while 150 in Barhatta and 100 in Atpara, sources mentioned.
Apart from the boro crop at Sajna, Shialdi and Laxmipur haor of Atpara, hundreds of trees were destroyed in the affected areas.
