Reckless buses kill two
A woman and a seven-year-old child were killed in two road accidents in Dhaka and Narayanganj yesterday.
The woman was killed as a bus hit a motorbike in front of the Jatiya Press Club in the capital at about 10:00pm.
The victim, Samiya Sumi, 18, wife of cloth trader Taufiq Ahmed of Old Dhaka, was on her way back home at Nazimuddin Road on the motorbike with her husband.
Taufiq said a bus of Midway Paribahan rammed into his motorbike from behind leaving his wife fatally injured.
She was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared her dead.
Police said they seized the bus but its driver managed to flee the scene.
Our Narayanganj correspondent reports: A child was run over and killed by a bus at Chandmari of Fatullah in the town yesterday evening.
Shahin, son of day labourer Lal Miah, was hit by a bus of Bandhan Paribahan on Dhaka-Narayanganj link road. The driver fled immediately.
Locals took the seven-year-old child to a hospital at Khanpur where he was declared dead.
Agitated people later damaged more than 10 vehicles on the road. And traffic movement remained suspended for about half an hour.
Police later brought the situation under control.
