People block road for gas, power, water at Gulshan
Several hundreds of residents formed a human chain and blocked a busy road at Gulshan-1 intersection in the city yesterday demanding uninterrupted supply of power, gas and water.
The human chain that began around 10:00am and continued till 11:30am finally turned into a road blockade, resulting huge traffic congestion on both sides of the road.
The human chain was formed under the banner of Shachetan Nagarik Parishad led by Brig Gen (retd) ASM Hannan Shah, standing committee member of the main opposition BNP.
Talking to The Daily Star, police and Hannan's Personal Assistant Mohammad Yunus Babu, however, said they did not block any road as they only formed human chain to realise the demands.
Babu also said the residents of greater Gulshan area have been facing power, water and gas crises for the last seven months which have been intensified for the last one month, prompting them to form the human chain.
He said the residents of Gulshan, Narda, Mohakhali, Warless and Kalachadpur took part in the human chain.
Kamal Uddin, officer-in-charge of Gulshan Police Station, said a human chain was formed between 11:00am and 12:00pm in the area.
A huge number of police was deployed on the road during the programme.
The residents of different parts of Dhaka city have been suffering from continuous power, water and gas crises over the last three months.
