26 lakh tonnes of food grains to be distributed
Minister for Food and Disaster Management Dr Abdur Razzaque yesterday said the government has stepped up efforts to distribute 26 lakh tonnes more food grains under the Social Safety Network in the country.
He said 21 lakh tonnes of food grains have already been distributed among the poor under the food for work programme across the country this year.
The food minister said this while he was visiting the re-excavation of ponds and water bodies on Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus under the food for work programme.
He said the government has distributed Tk 600 crore under the 40-day labourers programme in the monga-prone areas of the country.
There is no food shortage in the country, Razzaque said, adding "prices of all essentials have been coming down in the market."
The food minister said the government would extend all possible help and cooperation to flourish natural beauty of the Jahangirnagar University.
Vice Chancellor Prof Sharif Enamul Kabir also spoke on the occasion.
