Implement women development policy

Demand NGOs, socio-cultural bodies

Leaders of different non-government organisations (NGOs) and socio-cultural bodies demanded implementation of the women development policy yesterday to ensure their rights as well as security in society.
Women's Rights Implementation Forum placed the demand at a human chain at Muktangan in the city.
It also demanded inclusion of the informal sector's labour in the labour law to ensure their rights as a large number of women are involved in the sector and their participation in the national development.
The leaders of the organisation called on the government to pay the delivery expenses of the women.
Nari Grantha Prabartana, UBINIG and Odhikar organised a roundtable at the National Press Club to mark the International Women's Day.
The speakers at the programme said a fair number of women are engaged in different formal and informal sectors, including shrimp, agriculture, salt factory and dry fish making factory, facing health hazards.
Women's basic health rights are frequently violated. So, the state's health system should be developed and mass people-oriented, they added.
Nowadays, women mainly fall victim to harassment by using them a product in the media, they said, adding that women have now become a product in advertisements, TV dramas, cinemas and internet.
Biplobi Nari Sanghati also organised a dialogue on the 'Position of women in 100 years' at TSC road island at Dhaka University.
Partnership of Women In Action at a rally demanded inclusion of the informal women labour in the labour policy to ensure their rights.
