BDR, BSF trade gunshots on Kushtia border
Indian Border Security Force (BSF) and Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) traded over 150 rounds of bullet on Char Chilmari border in Doulatpur upazila on Wednesday after BSF fired shots at suspected smugglers.
However, no casualty was reported.
BDR sources said BSF fired on a group of “smugglers” when they were on their way to Bangladesh from India at about 1:30am.
“At one stage, BDR members of Mirpur 32 battalion fired shots as the BSF men continued firing towards the Bangladesh border even after the suspects ran away,” said a source.
Mirpur Battalion Commander Lt Col Syed Ahmed said BDR fired about 70 rounds of bullet while BSF fired 85 rounds during the hour-long shooting.
A tense situation was prevailing in the area after the incident.
Later, BDR sent a letter to BSF inviting them to a flag meeting to defuse the tension. They were yet to receive any response from BSF till afternoon.
