Lift emergency in cyclone-hit districts: AL

Awami League yesterday demanded withdrawal of emergency in cyclone-affected districts immediately so that the political parties as well as the people could carry out relief operations together.
It also called on the government to declare 15 worst-affected districts as a disaster area and distribute VGF cards among the cyclone victims immediately.
The party also demanded that the government distribute 25 to 30 kg of rice and money among the victims on regular basis until the situation becomes normal.
"As the state of emergency has been in force, it is not possible for the political parties to carry out relief operation in full swing as expected. So, we are demanding that the government lift the emergency," AL Acting General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam told reporters after a meeting of the party.
The three-hour-long meeting was held at Acting President Zillur Rahman's residence at Gulshan.
Zillur urged the party workers as well as the people to stand by the cyclone victims.
