Road barricade to free AL man held in phensidyl case
Awami League (AL) leaders and activists yesterday laid siege to Kalaroa Police Station and put up barricade on Satkhira-Jessore road at Kalaroa demanding release of a local AL leader.
Police on Wednesday night arrested Keragachchi union AL General Secretary Maruf Hossain, also the acting chairman of Keragachchi Union Parishad (UP), at his house at village Kakdanga in a case filed by BDR following recovery of phensidyl at Keragachch on the day.
BDR personnel recovered 145 bottles of phensidyl from a place near Keragachch Primary School early Wednesday and filed a case with Kalaroa Police Station against seven people, including, Maruf Hossain, for their alleged involve in Phensidyl smuggling.
Over 1000 leaders and activists of local AL laid seige to Kalaroa Police Station and put up a barricade on Satkhira-Jessore road at around 9:00am demanding release of Maruf.
The AL men withdrew siege and road blockade programme at around 11:30am at the request of upazila AL Convener Moznu Chowdhury.
