ACC catches bribe-taking Wasa staff
The Anti-Corruption Commission yesterday afternoon caught two Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Wasa) employees red handed while they were taking bribe from a client at Dakkhin Basabo in the capital.
Wasa inspector, Revenue Zone-1, Mizanur Rahman and assistant pump operator Bashir Ahmed Talukder were arrested while they were taking Tk 18,000 as bribe from Zahirul Haque, a resident of the area, inside a medicine shop at 4:00pm.
The ACC team headed by its assistant director Rafiquzzaman conducted the drive with the assistance of Rab, following a complaint lodged by Zahirul.
Zahirul complained the two Wasa officials made a fake water bill of Tk 59,000 against his subscription and asked him to pay Tk 18,000 in exchange of reducing the bill to the original, said the ACC director.
Following ACC's suggestion, Zahirul set up a trap in Shihab drug house yesterday afternoon for giving the bribe and informed the Wasa officials-- where the two were caught red-handed.
The arrestees were later handed over to Sabujbagh Police Station.
