EC plans projection meetings

The Election Commission (EC) has planned to hold projection meetings for the mayoral candidates in the upcoming polls of Dhaka City Corporation (DCC).
Such public meetings will be held with a view to reducing expenditure for election campaign, Election Commissioner Brig Gen (retd) M Sakhawat Hossain told reporters at his office yesterday.
If the public meetings are held according to the plan, then mayoral candidates will not be allowed to hold public meetings for their electoral campaign, the election commissioner said.
The mayoral candidates may also be provided with the opportunities to address the voters through Bangladesh Television, he added.
Sakhawat said maximum Tk 50 lakh can be spent for the projection meetings where all mayoral candidates will be present and address the voters.
The tenure of DCC expired around two years ago.
The EC now plans to hold the polls in March-April.
