Eastern Refinery plans big for expansion
Modernisation of the state-run Eastern Refinery Limited (ERL) is now government's active consideration, as it wants to resolve the country's fuel crisis, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Enamul Haque has said.
“Every necessary step will be taken for the BMRE (balancing, modernisation, rehabilitation and expansion) of Eastern Refinery Limited to raise its annual production”, he told the refinery senior officials at a meeting in the port city yesterday afternoon.
Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation Chairman Anwarul Karim was also present.
During the meeting, it was pointed out that the BMRE at a cost of Tk 7562 crore will help the ERL produce an additional quantity of around 3 million tonnes of fuel annually.
Earlier, the minister visited different BPC-run marketing and distribution companies, including Padma Oil Company Limited, Meghna Petroleum Company and Liquefied Natural Gas Limited.
