Model, designer held with Yaba, heroin
Law enforcers have arrested five people including a model and a fashion designer with Yaba tablets, heroin and ice pills in the capital.
The arrestees are TV model Payel, 27, fashion designer Irin Rahman Poly, 30, Jahanara Kabir Rubi, 35, Rashida Akhter Ruza alias Jahanara, 27, and Masud Parvez, 28.
Two separate teams of the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) raided Pacific Super Centre at Kakrail and Hometec Mahbub Tower on Shantinagar Bazar road from 8:00pm to 12:00 midnight Sunday and seized 40 Yaba tablets, six grams of heroin, 12 ice pills, five mobile phone sets and Tk 67,300 from them.
Posing as Yaba buyers, DNC officials went to Pacific Super Centre and held Rubi, Jahanara, and Payel.
Acting on their information, another team of DNC raided Hometec Mahbub Tower and arrested Parvez and Poly.
Rubi told the journalists at the DNC office that she was a heroin peddler. She started selling Yaba tablets seven months back.
She said she was introduced to a number of models and film actresses after getting involved in the new business.
Rubi said about 1,000 girls including models and film actresses are involved in Yaba trade in the capital and other cities. At least eight top Yaba dealers fled the country following the recent drives by law enforcers, she added.
Payel, who worked as a model in two TV advertisements, told the journalists that she used to buy Yaba tablets from Rubi. She said one of her sisters-in-law, a film actress, is involved in Yaba trade.
Payel also gave the names of three film actresses who are involved in illegal drug trade.
