Hasanat's property attached without notice, wife alleges
Shahanara Abdullah, wife of former chief whip and Barisal district Awami League secretary Abul Hasanat Abdullah yesterday alleged that their moveable property were attached from their Dhanmondi house in Dhaka on Friday without any prior notice.
Talking to this correspondent from Dhaka over phone yesterday, she Shahanara said she now sleeps on floor and takes food supplied by neighbors.
All her furniture and kitchen utensils were attached by law enforcers from their house at Kalabagan without prior notice.
Manwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Dhanmondi police station, however said the court order for attachment of Hasanat's property reached the police station on Thursday and Shahanara was notified within hours through a police official.
But Shahanara categorically denying OC's claim and said if any notice for property attachment was sent, then it must have reached the residential address and received by the person addressed or any body on behalf of him.
She said police gave her a copy of the seizure list without mentioning the name of owner of the items.
The National Board of Revenue lodged a case last month against Hasanat for allegedly concealing information on his Tk 1.65 core assets and evading Tk 50 lakh taxes.
As Hasanat did appear before court, it declared him absconding issued notice for property attachment.
A police team from Dhanmondi thana led by Sub Inspector Abul Bashar confiscated moveable property from Hasanat's house at 25, Kalabagan Lake Circus Road in Dhanmondi Friday noon.
