Four get life in Tangail for Jewel murder
A court here on Monday sentenced four people to life term imprisonment in sensational Tangail terror Jewel murder case.
Judge ATM Mesbauddoula of special sessions judge court delivered the verdict in a crowded courtroom. He also fined the convicts Tk 10,000 each, in default, to suffer six months more in jail.
The convicts are Tota Miah and Nannu Miah of Kakanata village in Dhanbari upazila and Mozammel Hossain and Motaleb Miah of Bhadurir Char village in Gopalpur upazila in the district.
The court, however, acquitted four other accused as the allegations brought against them were not proved. They are Mokhlesur Rahman, Mona Miah, Safiqul Islam and Mohammad Hossain.
According to the case, centering enmity over control of a fish farm, the convicts murdered Jewel, then a top terror on police list in Tangail, at Balibhadra village in Dhanbari upazila on August 4, 1999.
Victim's elder brother Saker Hossain filed a murder case with Dhanbari police station accusing eight people a day after the killing.
