Bus strike in 8 dists called off
Indefinite bus strike enforced in eight districts of Khulna and Barisal divisions yesterday was called off later on the day following intervention by the administration.
Khulna and Barisal divisional bus owners and workers association earlier called the indefinite transport strike from 6am Monday in eight districts to realise their 4-point demand.
The strike was called off at 4:00 pm Monday after both the sides agreed to restrict plying unfit and route permitless locally assembled vehicles like Nasimon- Karimon, withdraw extra stoppages of BRTC buses outside the terminals, stop harassments and take steps to withdraw cases against four leaders.
Santosh Ranjan Talukdar, Barisal divisional commissioner and Sardar Muhammad Shah Alam, secretary of Bus Malik Sramik Oikya Parishad said, they held a meeting at Barisal divisional commissioner's office at noon to resolve the issues.
The council leaders from Bagerhat, Khulna, Pirojpur, Jhalakati, Bhola, Patuakhali, Barguna and Barisal districts were present at the meeting with high officials of the district and divisional administration.
During the strike hours in the morning all the buses on 14 routes remained off the roads as they did not come out of the main terminals in Khulna, Bagerhat, Barisal, Bhola, Patuakhali, Pirojpur, Barguna and Jhalakati causing immense sufferings to the people.
Nur Islam, an official of Barisal BRTC depot said, six of their buses were detained by the strikers in LGED area of Jhalakati and two others were damaged in Rayapur area there.
