Interrogate Aman at jail gate

Court asks IO

A Dhaka court yesterday directed the investigation officer (IO) to interrogate former BNP lawmaker Amanullah Aman at the jail gate in connection with an attempt-to-murder case.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ehsanul Haque passed the order as the High Court on October 7 directed the authorities concerned to interrogate Aman at jail gate.
After a hearing, the court rejected the remand prayer sought by the police to interrogate Aman and also rejected the bail petition filed by his lawyers.
However, Aman was not produced before the court during the hearing.
On September 29, the Detective Branch of Police arrested Aman at Zia International Airport in connection with the case filed by one of his party colleagues.
Aman was arrested following confessional statements given by three arrestees in this case.
Police sought a 10-day remand for quizzing Aman. But as they failed to produce case documents, the court put off the ruling on the prayer until October 8.
On October 8, the court adjourned the remand hearing till yesterday, as the jail authorities could not produce Aman before it due to his illness.
Osman Gani, a BNP leader and businessman from Aman's constituency, filed the case with Mohammadpur Police Station on May 31.
The case statement says Gani came under a gun attack on Salimullah Road in Mohammadpur on May 29.
