Dr Zohra Kazi passes away

Prof Dr Zohra Begum Kazi, a renowned senior-most physician of the country, passed away at her residence in the city yesterday just after four weeks of her 95th birthday, says a press release.
A renowned gynaecologist, she was also a pioneer of women's rights and language movement veteran.
She obtained the first position in the MBBS examinations from Lady Harding Medical College in Delhi in 1935.
Dr Zohra Kazi, who was the head of gynae department at Dhaka Medical College, played a pioneering role in the field of gynaecology in the country.
She received many awards and accolades, including Rokeya Padak and BMA Gold Medal.
She was the daughter of Dr Kazi Abdus Sattar of Madaripur and wife of late Raziuddin Bhuiyan, a lawmaker and industrialist.
She was buried at Banani graveyard yesterday.
