Saraf Ahmed : A writer-director with a promising career graph
Saraf Ahmed
Born in Mymensingh, Saraf Ahmed Zibon harboured a dream to carve a niche in the world of drama and film. Inspired by the works of Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, Zibon began working under Farooki as his chief assistant director from 2002.
"He is my guru. I've learnt many things from him, in particular the need to break free of traditional thoughts and approach," Zibon said.
With experience from working with Farooki on several mega serials and films, namely "51 Borti," "69," "420," "Bachelor" and "Mad_e in Bangladesh," Zibon gained a solid foundation in this field.
Zibon started both scriptwriting and directing in 2006 by making a telefilm titled "Ghar Nai." That was followed by "Autobiography of Sheikh Abdur Rahman" and "Nindito Norokey." All of them were produced by Chabial Utshob and aired on Channel 1.
About his work process, Zibon said, "When I start, my focus isn't on artistic or commercial value. I try to reflect my thoughts in my works where a special point of view is emphasised."
The young director has made several single-episode TV plays including "Priyo Parvin," "Koyedi," "Chhayabazi" and "Ki Je Hobey Ki Je Hoy" which were aired on Channel i, BTV, Rtv and ETV respectively.
He has also directed two plays written by Anisul Haq, titled "Serious Ekta Kotha Achhe" and "Hawai Mithai," aired on Channel i and Channel 1 respectively.
Among other works by Zibon, several TVCs including the ones for GrameenPhone and Citycell are notable.
A number of single-episode plays directed by Zibon will be aired on different TV channels this Eid. Of them, "Serious Kothar Porer Kotha" and "Wrong Pencil," both written by Anisul Haq, will go on air on Channel 1 and Rtv respectively. Written by Masum Reza "Miss Roshayon" and "Rongin Phanush" written by Nasreen Helali will be aired on BTV. Written by Fatema Shilu "Uchcha Madhyamik Shamadhan"will be aired on Banglavision. I am now working on a mega serial titled "Mymensingh to Dhaka Gate Lock Service" both written and directed by me.
"Most of the emerging writers, directors are commercially oriented. Moreover, since the preview committees of TV channels determine their fate, many promising writers and directors get discouraged, as their works are not properly evaluated," said Zibon on the flaws of the current system.
