A 'computer glitch' that may turn too costly for them

30 HSC students 'missing' from result sheet

Thirty students of Bangladesh Open University (BOU), who passed the HSC examinations from Moulvibazar Government Women's College centre this year, are facing uncertainty about getting admission into higher courses as their names are 'missing' in the result sheet.
The tabulation sheet includes their names as successful candidates but as the names are not in the result sheet, the students are yet to get HSC certificates.
Meantime, most of the higher educational institutions have announced their admission procedure while schedule of registration for the next HSC examinations under BOU is very imminent.
Faced with the uncertain situation, the 30 examinees are passing their time amid worry and frustration.
One hundred and seventy students appeared in the HSC examinations held in December 2008 under the BOU from Moulvibazar Government Women's College centre, said the examination centre authorities and students concerned.
After the university published the results in July 2009, the result sheet showed only 24 successful candidates from the centre but when the tabulation sheet came to the college, it was found that 54 students came out successful.
HT Ahmed, assistant director of Open University Moulvibazar region, said similar situations have appeared in several other centres of the country and it has occurred due to 'computer glitch'.
“The HSC examinees whose names have been printed in the tabulation sheet as successful candidates are being treated as 'passed' in the examination. The university authorities have been informed of the situation of Moulvibazar Government Women's College centre. Mark sheets of the examinees are likely to reach Moulvibazar within the current month (September). If the students get mark sheet, they will get scope to get admission into higher courses without certificate,” he said.
