One killed in clash over land dispute
A man was killed and 30 others were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers over a land dispute at Bhadraghat Bazaar in Sirajganj yesterday morning.
The dead was identified as Ruhul Amin, 38. The injured were admitted to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital and local clinics.
Quoting local people, the police said Jamal Khan and Julmat Khan have a longstanding dispute over a land at the Bazaar.
The clash erupted around 10:00am when Jamal and his men tried to resist Julmat and his men who came to the land to build a house there.
Both the groups equipped with lethal weapons attacked each other and vandalised two houses and two shops in the Bazaar.
Some 31 people were also injured during the melee. Of them, Ruhul Amin succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in the town.
On receiving information, the police and Rab forces rushed to the spot and resorted to baton-charge to bring the situation under control.
A tense situation has been prevailing in the area. Additional policemen have been deployed to avert further untoward incidents.
