Promoting cultural activism in Pabna

A discussion and recitation programme was held at Pabna Gonoshilpi Shangshtha premises recently. Patha Shahitta Sangshad (PSS), a local institution that focuses on recitation, organised the programme to orient the younger generation with art and culture. A group of young people vowed to engage themselves in the field of art and culture to foster a creative new generation. Cultural activists from different organisations participated in the programme.
Secretary of PSS, R K Akash chaired the discussion. President of Sammilito Sangskritik Jote, Pabna Abdul Matin Khan; noted cultural activist of the district Rezaul Haque Sajahan; organising secretary of Sammilito Sangskritik Jote Biplob Bhoumik; cultural activist F K Bachhu; Mirza Rana; PSS organiser Asadul Islam Shafique, Farzana Yasmin, Aboni and Ria spoke on the occasion.
The speakers focused on the role of cultural activists as agents of change. “Dedicated cultural activists are the catalysts of social transformation and can change society through a creative cultural movement. Cultural movements are essential for the progress of society,” asserted the speakers.
The speakers also emphasised on the need to include more young in the cultural arena. “The younger generation is often self-destructive due to drugs and other anti-social activities. Art and culture makes a man open minded. So we have to include more young people in the cultural arena,” they went on to add.
They also said that equilibrium prevailed in society a few years ago when the cultural weapon was active. “We should remember that without a cultural movement no nation can claim to be civilised. So people with the ability must promote cultural organisations to create real cultural mobilisation.”
Later, a recitation programme was held on the occasion. Mirza Azad and Timir Hairdar, both cultural activists of the district, formed PSS a few years ago with the dream of developing a creative young generation in the district.
