'Execute verdict of jail killing case'
The Jail Killing Day was observed in Rajshahi yesterday with a call for immediate implementation of the verdict of jail killing case.
On this day in 1975, four national leaders, Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmed, Capt (Retd) M Mansur Ali and AQM Quamruzzaman were killed in a barbaric way in Dhaka Central Jail.
Awami League (AL) leaders placed wreath at the Kadirganj grave of AHM Quamruzzaman Hena here.
This was followed by Quaran Khwani and milad mahfil. Later, the party leaders offered prayers at his graveyard.
Rajshahi city unit Awami League president ASM Masudul Haque Dulu, in a statement, called upon the countrymen to remain vigilant against the anti-liberation forces because what they said the evil forces are still active to destroy stability of the country through anarchy and subversive activities.
Terming jail killing as part of a conspiracy of the anti-liberation forces to grab state power unconstitutionally, the Awami League leader demanded exemplary punishment to killers of the national leaders.
In another statement, former vice chancellor (VC) of Rajshahi University (RU) and Rajshahi district unit president of Bangabandhu Parishad Prof Abdul Khaleq demanded punishment to killers of the national leaders who led the liberation war of the county in 1971.
He lamented saying the family members of the slain leaders are still being deprived of justice.
In a similar statement, Rajshahi unit of Sammilito Sangskritik Jote (SSJ) called upon the government to ban religion-based politics and trial of war criminals in any special tribunal.
Signatories to the statement are Sammilito Sangskritik Jote president Abul Hossain, also a language veteran and its general secretary Dr Shafiqul Alam.
