National Disaster Preparedness Day today
The National Disaster Preparedness Day-2014 will be observed across the country today with a view to raising awareness among people about natural calamities.
The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief and non-government organisations have chalked out various programmes to mark the day with the theme “Disaster has no timetable; we'll remain prepared all the time”.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in a message issued on the occasion, said her government is always ready to build a safe and disaster-resilient nation through implementing disaster risk reduction programmes.
Referring to different policies taken by the government to reduce loss of lives and property during natural disasters, the premier also urged all to build an effective disaster management structure by implementing all the existing policies successfully.
Abdul Hamid, in a separate message, appreciated the initiative to observe the day and wished all the programmes arranged for the occasion success.
