Though locally improvised slow-paced vehicles are not allowed on highways, the situation is different on this highway at Rupganj in Narayanganj. Because of the slow vehicles, long-route buses failing to pick up speed remain behind schedule. Besides, those auto-rickshaws often get hit by heavy vehicles, resulting in serious accidents. A road roller for repair of Dhakeshwari Road got stuck in a pit as the road caved in on May 19, 2015. The driver of the roller said the road is now in such a bad shape because there is inadequate sand under its concrete surface. Later, the roller was pulled by a wrecker.
The parts of Buriganga along Kamrangirchar, a peripheral area of the capital, have been an easy prey of the river encroachers who are silently dumping household and construction waste, among other things, to fill the channel from both banks and building structures to occupy the ground. The grabbing is going on exceeding the demarcation pillars, and the river has already stopped flowing under Kamrangirchar Bridge (next photo). The photo was taken on May 19, 2015.
