Police Crack Down on BNP

Protesting the denial of permission for its planned rally on Thursday demanding the release of party Chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail, BNP leaders and activists yesterday started gathering in front of Nayapaltan office since the morning to hold a “black flag” programme scheduled to start at 11:00am. However, police charged batons and fired water cannons to disperse the protesters, leaving several BNP activists injured. BNP claimed police arrested more than a dozen party leaders and activists at the spot. A completely drenched BNP activist throwing an object to police. Photo: Amran Hossain
