Torrential rain and tidal water submerged many areas of Chittagong city today in knee-deep to waist-deep water causing miseries for local residents.
The local met office recorded 326.2 millimetre rain in the port city till 9:00am, reports our Chittagong correspondent.
The monsoon might prolong for another day and signal No. 3 has been hoisted in the port, Bishwajit Choudhury, met official told The Daily Star.
The city's low-lying parts including -- Bakolia, Bahaddarhat, Kapasgola, Halishahar, and CDA residential area -- went underwater due to continuous downpour from last night causing immense sufferings to the people living in those areas.
The water clog worsened as the monsoon and high tide started together, said Shafiqul Mannan Siddiki, chief conservancy officer of Chittagong City Corporation.
Motor vehicles were hardly seen in those areas while rickshaws were seen plying the roads in a small number.
Commuters had to suffer crossing filthy and clogged water, to reach their destination.
The kitchen market and local groceries remained closed due to the same problem.
