Mexican fan proposes to girlfriend in stadium at moment Netherlands score

A Mexican fan headed to the Castelão Stadium in Fortaleza with a ring in his pocket, hoping his side's World Cup clash with the Netherlands would provide a perfect moment to propose to his girlfriend.

In the dying minutes, with underdogs Mexico up 1-0 and on the verge of knocking a heavily favored Netherlands out of the competition, the El Tri fan seized the opportunity to drop to one knee and ask The Big Question, reports Yahoo sports.

The moment was beautiful for a few seconds, but the mood was slightly subdued by Holland's 88th-minute equalizer:

Of course, the Netherlands went on to break Mexican hearts a few minutes later when it scored a controversial winner from the penalty spot.

Suffice to say, the proposal wasn't quite as well timed as the one pulled off in the stands by an American during the USMNT's victory over Ghana.

According to the English fan who Tweeted the moment of joy, the bride-to-be was "less happy at full time."
