A Dhaka court has issued arrest warrants against Regent Group Chairman Mohammad Shahed and its Coordinator Md Mizanur Rahman in a case filed over misappropriation of Tk 79.71 lakh from a businessman.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Habibur Rahman Chowdhury passed the order after Md Shipon Ali, proprietor of Rabeya Trading Corporation at Mirpur-1 of Dhaka, filed the case against them yesterday.
The court also directed the officer-in-charge of Uttara Paschim Police Station to submit a report by October 18 on execution of arrest warrants issued against the duo.
In his complaint, Shipon said he got an order of supplying sand and cement from Shahed's company on October 24 last year and supplied the products -- worth Tk 79,71,867 -- between November 21, 2019 and December 3 the same year.
On January 27 this year, the complainant requested Shahed and Mizan to pay the money but Shahed and Mizan threatened him with dire consequences, Shipon continued.
Shahed was arrested from Satkhira on July 15 when he was trying to leave the country. Later, he was placed on a 61-day remand in different cases filed with different police stations.
Mizan was arrested on July 24 from his village home in Gopalganj in a case filed for issuing fake Covid-19 certificates to 76 labourers under Metro Rail project.
Later, he was placed on a 10-day remand in the case filed with Uttara Paschim Police Station.
