Man killed over Dinajpur land dispute

A man was killed and his father injured when a group of Santals clashed with a section of Bangalees over a land dispute in Parbatipur upazila of Dinajpur this morning.
Deceased Md Sohag, 30, was son of Jahurul Islam of Sarkerpara village in the upazila, our Dinajpur correspondent reports quoting a local police officer.
The Bangalees also carried out vandalism and looted Santals’ houses during the clash that ensued around 9:30am, Rabindranath Saren, general secretary of Jatiya Adivasi Parishad claimed.
On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control around 12.20pm, said Mahmudul Alam, officer-in-charge of Parbatipur Police Station.
Sohag was killed as an arrow pierced his body, local sources said.
Around 60 ethnic minorities live at the village.
Additional police have been deployed in the area to avert further untoward incident.
