Mummy’s Kitchen: The taste of homecooked food
If there's one thing that's universal across all lifeforms, it's probably food. We don't just eat to sustain life; we eat for the sheer bliss of it. But how often have you had one of those meals where the food was good, yet for some reason didn't satisfy you? We all know why that happens. Sometimes we just crave homecooked food. Or to be more specific, sometimes we just want something cooked by our mums.
While it's virtually impossible for anyone to provide you exactly that, we have the next best thing. Mummy's Kitchen has started a very promising and interesting initiative of homecooked food. As you can imagine from the name, the food they offer are cooked by Mum chefs.
"My mum loves to cook and I love having my friends over often. They enjoy her cooking as much as I do and one of them made me realise that I could share it with the others," said Alavee Hossain, creator of Mummy's Kitchen and a passionate foodie.
"First it was just my mum doing the cooking, now we have as many as 10 mum-chefs."
What's so special about Mummy's Kitchen anyway? The first thing that's special is — as mentioned earlier — the food is homecooked by mother chefs. Some of them are so dedicated and passionate about it that they grow almost all the ingredients themselves to maintain the quality.
It's not easy competing against professional restaurants, especially when you have no physical outlet and online order is the only way you are communicating with your customers. But Alavee is confident and up for the challenge. "If my food is good, then sooner or later people will start to notice and they will realise that whatever they are getting from Mummy's Kitchen is the best in quality," he said.
At the moment, they are offering three different lines of food — Zaiqa, the main seller of Shahi flavours of Bengal, ChaGaram, a choice of snacks, and Mithai Ka Fusion, a segment for special sweet-tooth.
The Shahi items include nehari, chicken charga and a few choices of biriyani. ChaGaram provides quite a number of choices in singara, bakarkhani, and a few other items — perfect for munchies.
Having started with nehari, it still remains their most popular and their star dish. The menu looks a bit small at the moment, but there are plans to include more items.
"But we don't want to rush it either. Quality over quantity," Alavee said.
"I have travelled a lot all across the world, and I am a foodie at heart myself so I understand the passion that food demands. I have been studying the flavours of our local cuisine and trying to combine them with other local food to elevate their taste," added Alavee with a smile.
With fresh ingredients, deep knowledge of cooking and multiple styles, the team at Mummy's Kitchen aspire to eventually create a platform of great home cooks and bond with the community as they progress.
