Baishakh for the hip and cool

Having said all that, let’s see what in store for the youngsters of today. While sari is the choicest of attire for any Baishakhi event, a stay-at-home Baishakh may demand something different, something more colourful and out-of-the box, especially to beat the morbidity that surrounds us. Our idea is to go with more of a pop-art angle and Andy Warhol motivated designs, but with a Bangladeshi twist.

Relive the Bengali drama

We can wear pop art inspired by the Bengali Film Industry. Nothing can be more fun and more Bangladeshi then having Dipjol, Shabana and Manna in their signature moves as prints. Definitely these styles are for the young at heart and that's why we mentioned the word hip and cool at the beginning. Pair the same look with Turkish pants or maybe a dhoti and you have something unique meant for the global fashion stage.

Men included please

When we speak of fashion, we are majorly talking about women; how they should dress, what they should wear etc. It's so unfair! When we don our eccentric dhoti and top, we need to make sure our significant other doesn't feel left out.

Shirts in similar prints are also available at famous fashion outlets like Jatra. Get one in his size and make him pair with a dhoti as well. If this look turns out to be too much for him, a khadi pant could be matched instead.

Enough with the POP drama

You think these styles will get on your nerves and you are just not cut out for the excess drama. Then we definitely have styles for you too. Why not wear a simple white sari like you would any year? But rather than having a blood-red paar on the edges, replace it with a pop-art inspired paar. If cinema is not your thing, then why not experiment with the beauty of Bengal, like trees and mud huts with thatched roofs or the plain greenery of the nation that we call our own?

Finally, after all the suggestions made, the ultimate decision is yours. Our counsel was meant to only 'spice up' Baishakh for everyone during sombre times. You can choose to wear whatever you want. The main idea is to enjoy the day and make pledges for a better world, a better future for our beloved nation.

Stay safe, stay hydrated.

Wishing you all an enjoyable Pahela Baishakh!
