Two siblings sentenced to 10 years in prison for trading yaba
A Thakurgaon court sentenced two brothers to 10 years each in prison today in a case filed for trading yaba pills.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Tariqul Kabir delivered the verdict after examining the case records and testimonies of 10 witnesses today.
One of the convicts -- Mokhlesur Rahman (29) -- was present during the verdict while the other -- Imran Rana (25) -- is absconding. They are sons of Haidar Ali of Chandanchahat village of Ranisankal upazila of the district.
The court also fined the convicts Tk 10,000 each; in default, they will have to serve one more year in jail.
Detective Branch (DB) of police on August 10, 2019, conducted an anti-drug drive on the village, led by Sub-inspector Md Shamim Haque, and detained the duo. They seized 2,000 pieces of yaba pills from them at the time, said Abdul Hamid, the prosecution lawyer.
Later, SI Shamim filed a case at the Thakurgaon Police Station accusing the two.
On September 27, 2019, investigation officer of the case -- DB Police SI Pushpa Ranjan -- submitted the charge sheet against the convicts, reports our Thakurgaon correspondent.
