4 sentenced to death for murder of woman during robbery in Ctg
A Chattogram court today sentenced four people to death for killing a woman during robbery in Chattogram's Bayezid Bostami area in 2016.
"Chattogram Fourth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Shariful Alam handed down the verdict after the court found them guilty beyond doubt crossing all the evidence and witnesses," said Additional Public Prosecutor Md Noman Chowdhury."
The death row convicts are Md Yasin, Md Mansur, Abu Tayeb and Md Ishaq. Among them Yasin is behind bars while the rest are absconding after they secured bail from High Court, said Noman.
"The court in another section of the case also sentenced the four to life term imprisonment and fined Tk 10,000 each, in default of which they will have to serve six more months in jail," said the additional PP.
According to the case statement, the victim Parvin Akhter, a housewife was killed during a robbery at her flat at the Bangladesh Co-Operative Society area under Bayezid Bostami Police Station in the city on March 5, 2016. During the incident the robbers looted gold, cash and mobile phone by holding the victim's son Sayed hostage and at one point they killed the woman when she tried to shout for help.
After the incident, the victim's husband Nurul Alam filed a case accusing unknown people after which police arrested the four.
During the investigation the four gave confessional statements before the court in this incident. After investigation, police submitted a charge-sheet against them on June 6, 2016. Later a court framed charges against them on March 5, 2017.
