Land grabbers this time attack Dhudu's wife, mother
Wife and mother of Dhudu Soren, who was stabbed to death by a gang of land grabbers in Nawabganj upazila of the district on August 2 this year, came under attack by the same gang yesterday.
The victims are Phulmoni Mardi, 42, and her mother-in-law Surujmoni Mardi, 68. The incident took place at Hili Dangapara Bazar where Dhudu Soren was murdered.
Witnesses said, a gang of land grabbers led by Md. Sabuj Mia, 30, son of Md Gulzar Ali of Kachua village in the upazila swooped on Phulmoni Mardi and Surujmoni Mardi at the bazar where they went to but basic commodities at around 8:30am. The gang beat up the duo and left the scene.
Locals took them to Nawabganj Upazila Health Complex where they received treatment. The incident triggered panic among the indigenous people in the upazila.
Contacted, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Amirul Islam of Nawabganj Police Station said no case was filed in connection with the incident as of 5:00pm yesterday. Robi Soren, the eldest son of slain Dhudu Soren, said they will lodge a case against the attackers in a day or two
He alleged that members of the same gang, who killed his father on August 2, physically assaulted his mother and grandmother.
The indigenous people of the upazila formed a human chain at Hili Dangapara Bazar yesterday afternoon, demanding arrest of those who attacked Phulmoni Mardi and Surujmoni Mardi on Monday.
Over 1,000 people joined the programme that continued for an hour from 5:00pm. The participants also demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the killers of Dhudu Soren.
Dhudu Soren of Kachua village was stabbed to death by the gang at Hili Dangapara Bazar. Robi Soren filed a murder case with Nawabganj Police Station the following day, accusing Abdul Gaffar and seven others of the village.a
