Kishoreganj-Dhaka rail link restored

Rail communication of Kishoreganj with Dhaka resumed this afternoon after five-hour halt following derailment of the locomotive of a train in Bajitpur upazila of Kishoreganj.
A rescue train from Akhaura reached Halimpur, where the wheels of the engine veered off, and restored the rail track around 2:00pm, Kishoreganj railway station master Jayanta Kumar Saha.
Earlier around 7:00am, the engine of the Chittagong-bound 'Nasirabad Express' derailed as the opposition activists removed several fishplates on the last day of the opposition's 60-hour hartal (shutdown).
None was hurt in the incident, reports our district correspondent.
The BNP-led 18-party combine initially called 48-hour countrywide hartal (shutdown) since Sunday demanding cancellation of polls results and protesting killing of the party men on the elections day.
Later, the alliance extended the shutdown till 6:00pm today.
