Khaleda, Hasina responsible for loss of lives
Chiefs of both the ruling and opposition parties must take the blame for the innocent lives lost in bomb attacks on the streets, said a citizens' platform yesterday.
None of them have the right to burn people alive because of their unscrupulous greed for power, they added.
At a protest rally before the capital's National Museum, writers, journalists, cultural activists, students and people from different walks of life, under the banner of "Shahingshata Protirodhe Janata", stated that no party can go to power at the expense of innocent lives.
"We don't want a share of power or a share of the corrupt leaders' assets. We just want the guarantee of natural death," said Masud Rana, whose family members were injured last week during the opposition alliance called blockade which is still ongoing.
MM Akash, professor of economics at Dhaka University, said through obstinacy and violence the two parties are taking the country towards a grim future which will cost democracy.
Addressing the rally, students from different schools demanded that they should be able to go to schools without any risk to their lives.
The protesters also brought out a candlelit procession that paraded through Dhaka University campus.
