JU staff demand admission of 96 disqualified wards
Jahangirnagar University staff demonstrated on the campus yesterday demanding that the authorities admit their 96 wards into the university who failed in 2014-15 session admission tests.
The staff under the banner of “Officer-Employee United Forum” held a rally where they also threatened to observe work abstention for the next two days if their demand was not met by today.
The authorities in last August relaxed admission requirements under the ward quota in face of demonstrations of the staff after they assured that they would not demand anything else, said administration officials.
This year, 96 out of 139 wards even failed to obtain pass mark (35 percent) and only one made to the merit list.
No decision has yet been taken in this regard, said Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Abul Hossain.
Under the ward quota, admission seekers already enjoy the privilege of getting admission into any department they choose by only attaining the pass mark and the quota size is also not specified.
