It’s the last chance, cash the opportunity: Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today termed the December 30 as the last chance for the people and called upon the countrymen to cash the opportunity overcoming all adverse situation.
“We are trying to get rid of the situation for the last 10 years. The last chance is appearing through the December 30 general election. We will have to yield a result,” Fakhrul said while addressing a programme in Dhaka this afternoon.
The programme was arranged at the Supreme Court premises marking the 54th birth anniversary of party’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman.
He also blasted the government for “creating obstacles” on the way of the party’s smooth political activities and “repressing” the party men deliberately.
“We are passing through a tough time. We will have to overcome it by building a strong resistance,” the BNP leader said.
About the national election, Fakhrul said the government will have to force in holding the upcoming general election in a free, fair and inclusive manner.
“We will have to build a wall of people’s force. There is no alternative to it and it is a struggle for our survival and existence,” he said.
Fakhrul also called upon his party men, who are on the run fearing of arrest, to throng the polling centres along with workers and supporters to centralise the movement against the ruling quarter.
“Only then, will become victorious,” Fakhrul said.
11TH JS ELECTION SCHEDULE
Election Commission has revised polls schedule, deferring the 11th general election by a week to December 30.
The authorities have fixed November 28 as the deadline for filing nomination papers, December 2 for scrutiny and December 9 last date for nomination withdrawal.
The first schedule for the parliamentary election was December 23. Later, the commission reschedule the election on December 30 following demands from several opposition political parties.
