JCD central leader sent to jail
A Dhaka court today ordered to send Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) central committee’s General Secretary Habibur Rashid to jail hours after he was arrested at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
The court came up with the order after rejecting a 10-day remand prayer for him in a vandalism case.
Immigration police arrested Rashid at the airport around 2:45am, moments before his departure to United States defying an embargo on his travel abroad, Bazlul Karim Abed, vice-president of JCD central unit, told The Daily Star.
The immigration police later handed him over to the airport police station.
After producing him before the court, the law enforcers sought a 10-day remand for him in the case filed with Shahbagh Police Station for alleged vandalism during BNP’s hartal on September 22, Abed said.
Rejecting the remand prayer, the court set tomorrow to hear the charges brought against him in the case and sent him to jail, he said.
Habib received bail in all the 80 cases filed against him and was released from jail two months back, he added.
