- President Yahya Khan and visiting Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, in a meeting at Rawalpindi, express the need for world peace and underline both countries’ interests and policies in line with the agenda. Yahya Khan arranges a feast with the Canadian premier where both leaders commented on Pakistan and Canada’s prevailing good bilateral ties. President Yahya welcomes the Canadian prime minister as a friend, a global leader and the chief of a great country and hoped that his visit will boost the friendly relation between two countries. He says, both countries are interested to uphold the world peace and they value likewise policies on the issues of general interest affairs in and outside the commonwealth. The president mentions the friendly relation between neighbouring countries. However, he says that the relation with India remained sour with the pending issues of Kashmir and Farakka.
- The Dhaka University Journalists’ Association is formed with Bhuiyan Mohammad Iqbal as president, Chinmoy Mutsuddi as its general secretary and a 13-member working committee. Notably, this is the first national body of journalists working as campus representatives of daily and weekly newspapers of the country.
- A youth is arrested from the Dhanmondi residence of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman over allegations of attempting to assasinate Bangabandhu. A press release from the Awami League says the youth confessed that he had gone to the residence of Bangabandhu with an intention to kill him. He also says he is a member of an organised gang and received trainings and orders in this regard. It could be known that a highly powerful gang is appointed in several parts of the country to try and utilise an opportunity to assassinate Sheikh Mujib.
