  • Awami League and its 419 members, newly elected in the national and provincial councils, take oath in a gala rally at Dhaka’s Racecourse Field. The oath-taking is conducted by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Sheikh Mujib gave out a policy speech. The newly-elected members took oath to implement 11-point and 6-point demands in order to create a new society free of exploitation, injustice and inequality. The assembly prays for the salvation of the souls departed for the tornado and hoped for the unity of seven crore Bengalis in the disaster.
  • Awami League chief Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman warns the gathering that a conspiracy is still at play. He tells the nation to be prepared for great sacrifice. Sheikh Mujib issues stern warning to the conspirators and says that the 6-point demand governance will be established and no one will be able to stop it. He says Awami League needed assistance in this regard but there will be no compromise on values. He says the 6-point demand is not the property of Awami League or Mujib, but the people. He says the members have no right to compromise with this.

Bangabandhu calls for release of all political leaders, activists, students and workers from his speech.

If voted to power, Mujib says, Awami League will seek for a peaceful solution to the Kashmir and Farakka problems.
