It's True!
Luka Šulić and Stjepan Hauser, both classically-trained Croatian musicians were sometimes considered rivals and competed against each other in music contests in their teens, before they met at a master class, and formed 2Cellos.
The duo was discovered after uploading a music video of their cello-only cover of Michael Jackson's “Smooth Criminal” to YouTube that received over three million views in the first two weeks and over ten million views in all. As a result of 2Cellos' success, English singer Elton John asked the duo to appear with him on his summer tour in 2011. John, who personally called Šulić, said that he had watched the “Smooth Criminal” video and wanted 2Cellos to participate in the thirty-city tour.
