Intern found dead at dormitory
An intern of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital was found dead inside the bathroom of the dormitory in Baghmara area of the district town yesterday.
The deceased, Syed Riasat Azim, 23, son of Dr Syed Mohammad Ferdous Azim of Shah Sultan Road in Netrokona district town, was performing internship at the hospital.
Police quoted Riasat's roommate Dr Nazmul as saying that he went to the bathroom when none of his roommates was in the room.
After returning to the hostel around 2:00pm, his roommates found the bathroom door closed from inside. Hearing no response, they broke open the door and found him lying in an unconscious state.
They rushed him to the medical college hospital where the on duty doctors declared him dead around 2:30 pm, police said.
Dr Motiur Rahman Bhuiyan, secretary of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) Mymensingh unit, said Dr Riasat might have died of cardiac arrest as he complained of chest pain to his roommates on Monday night.
On information, a team of Mymensingh Kotwali Police Station led by Sub-Inspector Ahsan Habib recovered the body from the hospital. Riasat's body was handed over to his parents around 5:00pm, police said.
