India to open 6 new visa centres in Bangladesh
The Indian government is opening six new Indian Visa Application Centres (IVAC) in Thakurgaon, Bogura, Cumilla, Noakhali, Brahmanbaria and Satkhira districts this month.
In Thakurgaon and Bogura, IVAC will start operating on January 6 and in the other four districts it will begin on January 12, said a press release of High Commission of India in Dhaka yesterday.
Currently, there are nine fully functional IVACs in Bangladesh. With the new six, the total number will increase to 15.
They are being opened to facilitate access of Indian visas to Bangladeshi nationals residing in far-flung and remote areas.
The opening of new IVACs reflect the continuing efforts of the Indian high commission in collaboration with its outsourced partner, the State Bank of India, to further streamline the Indian visa application process and strengthen people-to-people contacts between the two neighbouring countries, the release added.
