Imran-led faction declares 3-day events
A faction of Gonojagoron Mancha yesterday announced a three-day programme to press home its demands, including a filing review petition against the Supreme Court verdict sentencing Jamaat leader Delawar Hossain Sayedee to life imprisonment till death.
Speaking at a protest rally in the capital's Shahbagh, Imran H Sarker, spokesperson of the faction, said they will bring out a procession from Shahbagh to the law ministry on October 19.
The faction will also hold a two-day national convention from November 14 in the capital, he added.
The demands include scrapping of the president's clemency power, and trying Jamaat-e-Islami as an organisation accused of war crimes.
The faction will organise a march, "Jagoron Jatra", across the country until November 13.
Almost 50 yards away from the protest rally, another faction of the Mancha led by Kamal Pasha also staged a rally demanding immediate trials of war criminals and banning Jamaat Shibir.
On September 17, the SC commuted the death penalty of Sayedee. The International Crimes Tribunal-1 on February 28 last year sentenced him to death for committing crimes against humanity during the Liberation War.
