Shakib only player with 1k runs, 30 wickets at World Cups

He had become the first Bangladesh batsman to reach the landmark of 1000 runs in World Cups during Bangladesh’s innings against Afghanistan. More was in store for Shakib as he picked up wickets with the ball after scoring 51 during Bangladesh’s innings.

The Bangladesh ace all-rounder notched a unique record during Bangladesh’s bowling innings. He came on in the 29th over and removed Afghanistan captain Gulbadin Naib and that wicket took his haul to 30 wickets. No cricketer has scored 1000 runs and taken 30 wickets in World Cups. Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya is the only player to have came the closest, scoring 1165 runs and picking up 27 wickets.

At the time of filing this report, Shakib had bagged his fifth wicket, removing Najibullah Zadran out stumped. He also became only the second player after Yuvraj Singh in 2011 to bag five wickets and score 50 runs in a World Cup match.
